James Rosenquist had a significant role in the pop-art movement. Starting off as a billboard painter gave Mr. Rosenquist an entrance into the art world. Much of his work exhibits juxtaposition between advertisements, pop culture and the media. With the use of vibrant colors he caught the eyes of popular culture. People in pop culture were searching for new art and when they found him they claimed him as a pop artist. James's art was often done on canvas or walls, and it consisted of works of  lithography, screen-printing, etching, and collage.
