Stereotyping according to the dictionary is defined as a set of inaccurate, simplistic generalizations about a group that allows others to categorize them and treat them accordingly. Stereotyping is something that occurs more often than people might think.  People may think differently of certain people because of the way someone might look. It's like the expression "don't judge a book from its cover". In this picture the groups of people being stereotyped are Asians, punk rockers, and people who dye their hair.  All of the girls are giving off the message of people automatically thinking they belong in a category just because of their appearance. Stereotyping in society is very common, all thought it is something people should stop getting in the habit of doing.

Banksy's Mona Lisa

This piece of art is made by Banksy and is postmodern graffiti. This exhibits the Mona Lisa holding a missile launcher. She is clearly out of her original elements here. I see several postmodern visual strategies in this picture. One of them is juxtaposition, the Mona Lisa traditionally has nothing to do with weapons and graffiti. Another strategy is re-contextualization, the Mona Lisa in this case is the image that is familiar  to us. Hybridity is also incorporated with this picture. This is so, because there is cultural blending between old and new forms of art.

What did I learn in the first quarter of art?........Before taking an art class my view of art was different than it is now. Before, I thought art was all about loud colors and expressive pictures. Now I know all of the details behind it.I learned about the elements and principles of art. I learned hot to properly critique art work. So now instead of saying "this piece of art is pretty and cute" I can say "this piece of art forms unity because of of its complex elements coming together in perfect balance".I also learned the different types of drawings. it doesn't seem like I learned many crucial things, but what I learned are the basic and technical terms to defining art.

Blog post #6

The handmade book that you see here is the Romeo and Juliet novel. It has been made over to "steam punk" style. Steam punk style is a genre of science-fiction that was around in the 1980's or the Victorian time. The cover is made over with clay. The craftsmanship is unique, rare, and extraordinary. It is held together with string laces. The designs on the cover are artistic and original, its texture is exquisite . This book really stood out to me because it is an antique, making it very hard to find and distinct.

This piece of art stood out to me as I searched threw many abstract art pictures. The colors, forms, and shades are what make the picture so unique. When I look at this picture I see beautiful butterflies being able break threw the confusion and chaos of the dark ink splatters. This piece could be a personal representation of someone's experiences or feelings.

Race and Gender Criticism

It can easily be said that more famous artists are judged differently  from less known artists. There are different  standards for artists in unlike social categories. Art that is more commonly know by the western culture will be judged accordingly to western principles. Will art that is not western be judged under western criteria?

Unfair judgment occurs more often than people think. I have witnessed unfair judgment several times with religion. As you may already know there are many religions existing in the world. Not all religions have similar beliefs. Religions such as Christianity and Islam have different beliefs. Christians worship God,Jesus,Virgin Mary, and the holy spirit. While Muslims only worship Allah. In the past there have been many incidents where Muslims committed terrorist attacks. Because of that people of other religions miss judge and assume all Muslims are terrorists.

In order for people everywhere to end judging others, society will have to exhibit being more open minded. The media has to show more diversity. Maybe then people will begin to notice that there are many more types of people out there than besides what their use to. Schools and education also play a major role in teaching people about the different religions and different types of people out in the world.

Art by Andy Warhol and Jennifer Sanchez

Jennifer Sanchez expresses herself using vivid colors and geometric shapes in her art. The different elements included in her pieces are what make her art so complex. Sanchez’s work is a representation of how different shapes, colors, and usage of space come together and change environments.Accoring to the artist herself she tries to show the public the new spaces she comes up with. Andy Warhol is one of the most influential pop artist of the 20th century. His work is basic images brought to life with  loud colors. His vintage  paintings were amongst the most popular of his work.

Both artists are in the field of  modern art. Andy Warhol’s art is pop art. Jennifer Sanchez’s art is more of abstract art. The artists share the usage of bright and bold colors. Using their art to express themselves they have created bold, meaningful, and interesting pieces. I enjoyed looking at both pieces because they have unique elements that and the colors are very attention grabbing.
